In today's digitally connected world, mobile data is like oxygen for our smartphones. However, there are times when our data plans run dry, leaving us vulnerable to unintended charges. If you're a Safaricom subscriber in Kenya, you might have experienced the frustration of your phone automatically dipping into your airtime when data is depleted. But fear not, as there are steps you can take to prevent this from happening and save yourself from unnecessary expenses. It's for that reason that I decided to write this post to help people save their Airtime.

Here is a Step by Step Procedure To Prevent your Airtime to be used as Data bundles:

  • On your phone dial *544#
  • Select 98(More)
  • Choose option 12 ( Balances and Tips)
  • Select 2 (My Data Manager)
  • Choose 1( Activate)
  • You will receive a pop up message that you have activated Data Manager.

Tips To To Apply And Avoid Data Bundles Loss

1. Monitor Your Data Usage:

Awareness is the first step towards prevention. Keep track of your data usage by regularly checking your balance through the Safaricom app or by dialing *544#. Knowing when your data is about to run out allows you to take proactive measures.

2. Disable Data Roaming:

Data roaming can be a silent culprit, especially when you're traveling internationally. Ensure that data roaming is turned off on your device to avoid unexpected charges. You can find this option in your phone's settings under the mobile network or cellular data settings.

3. Turn Off Background Data Usage:

Many apps continue to consume data in the background even when you're not actively using them. To prevent this, go to your phone's settings, find the list of installed apps, and disable background data usage for those apps that you don't need to constantly update in the background.

4. Enable Data Saver Mode:

Most smartphones offer a data saver mode that restricts background data usage and reduces the amount of data consumed by apps. Enable this feature in your phone's settings to conserve data and avoid unnecessary charges.

5. Use Wi-Fi Whenever Possible:

Whenever you're in range of a trusted Wi-Fi network, switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi to avoid using up your data plan. This not only saves your data but also provides a faster and more stable internet connection for browsing, streaming, and downloading.

6. Set Data Usage Limits:

Some smartphones allow you to set data usage limits and receive notifications when you're approaching or exceeding those limits. Take advantage of this feature to stay within your data allowance and avoid unexpected charges.

7. Contact Safaricom Customer Support:

If you've been charged for airtime usage despite taking precautions, reach out to Safaricom customer support for assistance. They can investigate the charges and provide guidance on how to prevent them in the future.

Better management of data is crucial when it comes to  saving you from unexpected charges and ensuring a seamless mobile experience. Remember, a little vigilance goes a long way in managing your mobile expenses effectively. Its my hope that the above information will helps someone.
