Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu signed into law the Access To Higher Education Bill, popularly called the Student Loan Bill on June 12th, 2023. The bill provides interest-free loans for indigent Nigerian students and allows for the establishment of a Nigerian education bank.
The education bank will receive applications for student loans through higher institutions on behalf of the students and screen them. The funds for the student loan bill will be domiciled in the Ministry of Education
The law is also known as the Access To Higher Education Bill. It was introduced in 2016 by the outgoing speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
