Mombasa, Kenya — The founder and CEO of Mombasa Cement Ltd., Hasmukh Patel, also known as Hasu, has tragically passed away at the age of 58. Born in 1966, Patel was a cement business tycoon and a multi-billionaire, widely recognized for his significant contributions to Kenya’s construction industry.

He passed away at Premier Hospital in Mombasa after a short illness. Under his leadership, Mombasa Cement has grown to become one of Kenya’s leading cement producers, playing a pivotal role in the country’s infrastructure development.


Beyond business, Patel was known for his commitment to community service, often leading initiatives that provided foodstuffs, scholarships, and other forms of support to those in need.

Hasmukh Patel, also known as Hasu Patel, was a billionaire philanthropist and the owner of Mombasa Cement, one of the largest cement manufacturers in East Africa. Patel's impact went far beyond business, as he was deeply involved in numerous charitable activities, particularly in the Mombasa region.


He is best known for feeding over 40,000 needy individuals daily through the Sahajanand Feeding Centre, which he established. Additionally, Patel invested Ksh 700 million of his personal funds to transform the Kibarani dumpsite into a recreation park, significantly improving the environment in Mombasa. His contributions to health and education, including paying hospital bills for many and supporting schools for children with disabilities, earned him widespread respect and admiration.


Unfortunately, Hasmukh Patel passed away on August 29, 2024 at the age of 58. His death has been met with deep sadness, and many tributes have poured in from the community and leaders, recognizing his generous spirit and the positive change he brought to so many lives.
