The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council is a statutory authority in Kenya mandated with the responsibility of monitoring and regulating the practice of Medicine and Dentistry in the country. The council ensure proper training to ensure provision of quality health care in Kenya.


KMPDC Registration and Licensing Requirements

Its mandatory for all Doctors and Dentists to be registered and licensed by KMPDC if they are to work in Kenya.

For one to be registered and licensed to work in Kenya as a Doctor or Dentist must have the following documents:

  • A certified copy of the degree certificate
  • Relevant testimonials
  • A duly completed prescribed form 
  • Current passport size photo
  • Copy of National ID/ passport
  • Prescribed fees 
  • Copy of certificate of good standing ( where one was studying outside the country)
  • Certified copies of English translation for all documents ( for foreign doctors)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Certificate of Proficiency in English or Kiswahili ( for foreign doctors)

KMPDC Registration, Retention and License Renewal Fees and Charges 

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council has got some charges and fees for the services provided as follows: 

1. Registration fees - ksh 8,000
2. Register Retention fees - ksh 4,000

3. Private Practice License by Citizens of Kenya
a)Full-time  General practice - ksh 10,000
b)Full-time Specialist practice - ksh 15,000
c) Part-time Specialist practice - ksh 10,000

4.Private Practice by Non citizens
a) Full-time General practice - ksh 30,000
b) Full-time Specialist practice - ksh 40,000
c) Part-time Specialist Practice - ksh 30,000

5. Temporary License for foreign Doctor - ksh 20,000
6. Certificate of Status - ksh 20,000 

N/B Its advisable to contact the council for clarification for the fees above as they are subject to change any time under the council's sole discretion.
Payments may be made through the council's MPesa Paybill number: 992836 after one receives the invoice number.


How To Receive the Retention certificate/ License

After successful approval, one will receive an SMS and an email notification informing that their certificates are ready and they can login into their portal download and print out the certificate.
