Apply for Affirmative Funds loans, Laikipia Youth and Women urged.

Youth, women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Laikipia County have been urged to seize the opportunity provided by Government and apply for affirmative fund loans in order to be economically empowered.

Addressing residents after disbursing affirmative funds cheques from Uwezo Fund and Women Enterprise Fund worth over Ksh 18 Million, Public Service and Gender, Chief Administrative Secretary Hon. Rachel Shebesh said that the uptake of loans within Laikipia County is one of the lowest in the country and structures need to be put in place to sensitize and educate residents to take advantage of the interest free loans provided by the government.

The CAS also called on the County Administration to address the rising cases of Gender Based Violence especially (GBV) which have risen by 30% during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

Laikipia County Governor H.E Nderitu Muriithi called on the National and County government officers to work together in ensuring that Wananchi are sensitized on the affirmative funds which will complement the county’s projects to improve the living standards of Laikipia residents.

Accompanied by Governor Nderitu Muriithi, Mr. John Mwaniki, Deputy Governor and Mr. Daniel Nyameti, County Commissioner among other officials, the CAS later toured Laikipia  Huduma Centre to assess the level of service delivery. She also  inspected the Laikipia railway station, which is part of the 233Km Nairobi-Nanyuki railway line currently under rehabilitation by the National Youth Service.
