Applications are now open for the 2020 Mawazo PhD Scholarships Programme to all African women pursuing PhDs in Esat Africa.
Mawazo Institute PhD Scholars Programme major aim is to support female scholars in East Africa.

Eligibility for the Programme

For one to be eligible for the programme, one must :

  • Be a Citizen of an African country
  • Be a woman below the age of 40 years as at 1st January 2020
  • Be enrolled for a PhD at an accredited university in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania or Uganda
  • Be in their dissertation phase of their PhD course
  • Demonstrate that the research project is about or related to African development
  • Be available to fully participate in the programme in 2020-2021

Benefits of the Programme

Successful candidates to join the PhD Scholars programme will benefit the following:
  • A research Grant worth up to $5000
  • A travel Grant worth up to $2000
  • A training Grant worth up to $500
  • A stipend worth $500
  • Research and editorial support from Mawazo staff and partners
  • Connections to mentors as well as exposure to leaders from academia, industry, Government and other sectors 
  • Visibility via Mawazo digital platform and events 

How To Apply

Requirements for the application
  • A completed online application form
  • An updated 2 page CV
  • A letter confirming current enrollment in an accredited PhD programme
  • A recommendation letter from the PhD supervisor
  • A recommendation from a second referee
  • A completed budget and timeline for the project
  • A complete budget narrative of 500 words or less
