Working to Advance African Women (WAAW) Foundation awards annual Scholarships to students who demonstrate need and prove their status as full-time student in STEM related courses in an African university.

The scholarship intiatiative is aimed at supporting needy African female students in STEM-fucused courses across the continent.


The criteria for eligibility for the scholarships include:
  • Female students of African origin studying and living in Africa
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate BSc degree programs
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have excellent Academic record
  • Be below 32 years of age
  • Studying STEM related courses in a university in Africa - Accepted courses include: Agriculture, Aircraft Engineering, Architecture, Biomedical, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Construction technology, Economics, Electronics Engineering, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Food Science technology, Genetics, Geology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Industrial Chemistry, IT, Maths, Natural Sciences, Pharmacy, Statistics and Zoology.

How To Apply

All applications must be submitted online ( Paper applications will not be accepted) 

Application requirements
  1. Duly filled application form
  2. Personal and contact information
  3. Educational background and family information
  4. Statement of need , should describe why you need the scholarship and how it will be used.
  5. Two academic/Professional references
  6. Three Essays which best describes the following:
a) In 500 words or less , please write an essay on your future career goals and how you expect the scholarship will assist you in fulfilling these goals.
b) In 300 words or less , please describe what you believe about female education in Africa and its impact on research development or advancement in African economies.
c) Describe in ten or less sentences why you need the scholarship. Tell about your need / financial situation and how the funds from WAAW Scholarship will assist you in your education/ career plan.
