Pathfinder International is the prime contractor for the United   States Agency for International Development (USAID)Afya Pwani program, which seeks to improve and increase access and utilization of quality health services in Kenya through strengthened service delivery and institutional capacity of county health systems in Taita-Taveta, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu counties.
Pathfinder International is seeking to hire highly motivated and talented candidates on one year fixed-term contract to join the Afya Pwani team in the Coast region as follows:

1. MEDICAL OFFICERS – JG ‘N’

JOB PURPOSE
The incumbent will be required to take lead in design, execution, monitoring and quality improvement of HIV
service delivery as per the national guidelines.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for providing HIV care and treatment services in the CCC.
• Ensure optimal standard of care is achieved by establishing and maintaining the use of nationally approved
clinical guidelines and protocols.
• Continuously strive to improve quality of HIV service provision through regular structured and systematic program analysis of performance and design and implementation of corrective actions.
• Continuous mentorship of clinical staff, including clinical officers, nurses and counselors on clinical management of clients.
• Ensure participation and contribution to capacity building of clinical and other staff through CMEs, coaching and mentorship.
• Ensure optimal standard of care is achieved by establishing and maintaining the use of nationally approved clinical guidelines and protocols.
• Ensure timely reporting, completeness and accuracy of data including documentation of best practices.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B; Ch.B.) or equivalent from a recognized University.
• Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
• Current annual KMPDB retention certificate.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a Medical Officer in a busy health facility.
• Knowledge and experience in HIV care and treatment.

2. KENYA REGISTERED COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES- JG ‘H’


JOB PURPOSE
To provide nursing cares services and document all care activities. Maintain inventory and care of equipment
and participate in coordination of patient services.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provision of nursing services including assisting in administration of prescribed medications and interventions.
• Support facility-community linkages, in-reaches and out-reaches.
• Provision of health information counselling services and appropriate referrals.
• Ensure availability of data tools and participate in data collection, recording, compilation and reporting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community, Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/ Midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing Mental Health and Psychiatry from recognized institution
• A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role.
• Registered Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution is an added advantage.

3. NUTRITION & DIETETICS TECHNOLOGISTS- JG ‘H’


JOB PURPOSE
Provide nutritional care to patients in various disease states and conditions; monitor, assess and optimize nutrition status based on a patient's current medical condition and/or nutrition adequacy; make recommendations for tube and intravenous feedings and/or dietary supplements.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement high impact nutrition services (HINI) at health facilities 
• Provide nutrition assessment counselling and support to people living with HIV
• Collecting and compiling accurate nutrition data
• Providing nutrition health education and demonstrations.
• Promote Maternal, Infant and Young Child feeding practices at facility and community levels.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition or Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of two years’ experience in providing HIV care and treatment services.
• Registration by Kenya Nutritionist and Dietitian Institute (KNDI).
• Certificate in Computer Applications Skills from a recognized institution.

4. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS- JG ‘G’

JOB PURPOSE
To conduct routine and complex hematological, clinical chemistry, histological, serological and other laboratory
procedures involving manual or automated techniques.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collection of patients’ samples.
• Offering general laboratory diagnostics and services.
• Record observations accurately, prepare and present scientific records and reports.
• Keep laboratory inventory and ensure the laboratory is well stocked and resourced.
• Observe standard laboratory operating and safety procedures.
• Ensure laboratory services are compliant with the quality management systems and laboratory biosafety regulations.
• Keep records of all patient results in the laboratory register.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team analyzing laboratory reports to inform the clinical team.
• Establishing routine work flow; developing / refining SOPs, job aids, log books, and referral forms as needed; planning of laboratory activities to improve test performance and decrease turnaround time; and developing and implementing an equipment maintenance program.
• Implementing and monitoring efficient documentation of laboratory results at the Site and into the NAASCOP/ EID website well as effective linkages between laboratory and clinical services.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
• A minimum of two years’ experience in a practical setting specifically in diagnostics and treatment monitoring of HIV/TB.
• Familiarity and experience in implementing national laboratory quality assurance standards.
• Knowledge and experience in HIV testing, viral load, PCR, DBS, CD4.
• Registration issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologist Board.
• Valid practice license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
• Certificate in Computer Applications Skills from a recognized institution.

5. ASSISTANT HEALTH RECORDS INFORMATION OFFICERS- JG‘H’

JOB PURPOSE
Participate in the planning, developing, maintaining and operating a variety of health record indices, storage and
retrieval systems to collect, classify, store and analyze client/patient information.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure availability of necessary data collection and reporting registers and summary tools at the facility.
This will include patient cards/files, registers, summary tools etc.
• Maintain data integrity, security and confidentiality as per laid down procedures.
• Guide the facility staffs and link community staffs on effective data management especially on correct and complete documentation.
• Ensure all required data records in registers including summaries and facility reports are complete, accurate and timely.
• Reporting for the facilities through DHIS2 timely and accurately and validation, verification and clean-up of data in the NASCOP EID and Viral Load website.
• Participate in data collection for program monitoring and research.
• Review data prior to submission to S/CHRIO/ uploading into DHIS2
• Scheduling and participating in routine facility data quality audits and facility data reviews.
• Cleaning EMR (IQCARE, where applicable) and DHIS2 data.
• Ensure the facility EMR is up-to-date and devoid of errors.
• Perform regular back-up of EMRs (IQCARE) and ensure concurrency with paper records.
• Assist in compilation of ad-hoc or systematic data analysis and share with the facility staff during data reviews and MDT meetings.
• Support innovative ways of data presentation to ensure maximum and timely utilization.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role.
• Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
• Membership to the Health Records and Information Managers Board will be an added advantage.
• Work experience with EMRs at a health setting is an added advantage.
• Should be self-motivated.
• Should have good interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.

6. HTS COUNSELLORS- JG ‘F’

JOB PURPOSE
Provide HIV Testing Services (HTS), linkage to care and psycho-social support services.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide HTS as per the Kenya HTS national guidelines at the health facilities and communities.
• Provide psychosocial support and effectively link newly HIV positive persons to care and treatment services.
• Adopt HTS differentiated testing approaches to optimize identification by different testing modalities including aPNS.
• Ensure observance and adherence to standard HTS operating procedures.
• Provide general information on HIV prevention, treatment and support services at service delivery points.
 Ensure availability of necessary HTS and Linkage data collection and reporting registers and summary tools.
• Ensure all required data records in registers including summaries and facility reports are complete, accurate and timely.
• Provide health education to outpatient clients as a strategy of mobilizing clients for HIV testing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in counseling and or related course from a recognized institution of higher learning.
• Certificate in HTC Counselling (NASCOP Certified).
• Current proficiency testing certificate.
• Be conversant with assisted Partner Notification Services (aPNS).
• Two years’ experience in HIV counselling and testing.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

7. CLINICAL OFFICERS- JG ‘H’

JOB PURPOSE
Provide HIV prevention treatment and support services in the Comprehensive Care Centers (CCC) while applying
the recommended national policies and guidelines.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• History taking, physical examination, investigation, diagnosis and prescribe treatment and patient counseling.
• Offer medical services to clients for Opportunistic Infections (OI’s) and Antiretroviral therapy (ARVs) for PLWHIV.
• Be on the forefront to flag out PHLIV’s who are not adhering to treatment, not suppressing and failing on therapy and develop respective corrective action plan including switching of treatment.
• Participate in integrated outreach activities.
• Mentor and train other cadres on HIV care and treatment.
• Regularly review CCC performance and develop corrective action plans.
• Ensure timely reporting, completeness and accuracy of data including documentation of best practices.
• Ensure adherence to the clinical standards of practice.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery.
• Registered Clinical Officer with the Clinical Officers’ Council of Kenya.
• Current practicing license/certificate.
• A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role.
• Training in the current national ART and PMTCT guidelines.

8.  PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGISTS- JG ‘H’

JOB PURPOSE
Procure medicines and other health commodities, be able to maintain an inventory, store in a manner that does not compromise either the integrity of the commodities or their security and be able to issue to other parties or dispense to clients for use. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Dispense and compound prescribed medicines to patients/clients.
• Identify prescriptions that might present risks to patients and to resolve relevant issues before dispensing.
• Ensure that medicines are dispensed in a legal, efficient and accurate way.
• Counsel patients on the use of their medicines at the point of dispensing.
• Ensure proper receipt, storage and issuance of pharmaceuticals and other related health products and maintain appropriate documentation for accountability as well as be able to prepare a report and/or order.
• Monitor storage conditions and update both the temperature and expiry tracking systems.
• Ensure security of pharmaceutical commodities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution of higher learning.
• Enrolled by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
• Enrollment/Practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role.
• Familiarity with the Code of Ethics and Standards for Pharmacy Practice in Kenya.
• Ability to communicate and explain treatments to patients as well as liaise and coordinate.
