Machakos county vacancies 2018/2019

The Machakos County Public Service Board wishes to recruit competent and qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions in the Department of Health:

1. MEDICAL LAB TECHNOLOGISTS 111 - FIFTEEN (15) POSTS JOB GROUP ‘’H’’

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Decontaminating work benches;
  •  Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms and specimen;
  •  Preparing clients for collection of specimens;
  •  Receiving, collecting, labelling and registering of specimens;
  •  Disaggregating specimens for processing analyses;
  •  Preparing reagents;
  •  Examining specimens;
  •  Writing and recording of results;
  •  Dispatching the results for use in clinical management;
  •  Preparing stains;
  •  Performing blood grouping;
  •  Issuing blood and products to peripheral health facilities;
  •  Storing blood products according to their requirements.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have-:

(i.) Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any other equivalent qualifications from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board;
(ii.) Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board;
iii. Valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board;
iv. Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable. 

Remuneration: As per Salaries and Remuneration Commission Guidelines.

2.  MEDICAL OFFICERS – NINE (9) POSTS JOB GROUP ‘’M’’

Duties and Responsibilities
  •  Diagnosing caring and treating diseases;
  •  Performing medical and surgical procedures;
  •  Preparing and responding to emergencies and disasters;
  •  Participating in the management of medicines, Medical instruments and equipment;
  •  Providing health education;
  •  Maintaining medical records, health information and data;
  •  Counselling patients and their relatives on diagnoses and officer inters;
  •  Preparing requisite documents for registration;
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade candidate must have-:

(i). Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery(M.B; Ch. B.) degree from an institution recognized by Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board;
(ii). Successfully completed one (1) year internship from a recognized institution;
(iii). Registration License from Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board;
(iv). Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable.

3.  REGISTERED CLINICAL OFFICER 111 – FOURTEEN (14) POSTS JOB GROUP ‘’H’’

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Examining, diagnosing and treating patients common ailments at an outpatient or inpatient health facility;
  •  Implementing community health care activities and liaison with other health workers;
  •  Guiding and counselling patients, clients and staff on Health issues;
  •  Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive promotive health;
  •  Carrying out minor surgical procedures as per training skill;
  •  Collecting and compiling clinical data;
  •  Referring patients and clients to appropriate health facility.
Requirements for Appointments

For appointment to this grade candidate must have-:

(i). Diploma in clinical Medicine Surgery or clinical Medicine and Community Health from a recognized institution;
(ii). Certificate of Registration from the Clinical Officer’s Council;
(iii). Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

4.  ORTHOPAEDIC TRAUMA TECHNICIAN 111 – TWO (2) POSTS JOB GROUP ‘’H’’

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Manipulating and reducing factures and dislocations;
  •  Fixing and removing casts, bandages to and from patients;
  •  Correcting Congenital Talipes Equino- Varus (C.T.E.V);
  •  Participating in the management of minor orthopaedic and trauma cases in emergencies and accidents;
  •  Sensitizing and creating awareness on orthopaedic trauma conditions to the communities;
  •  Counselling patients/clients on issues regarding orthiopaedic trauma.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade candidate must have-:

(i). Certificate in Orthopaedic Plaster and Traction Technology or Orthopaedic Plaster Technology from recognized institution;
(ii).  Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

5.  HEALTH ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER 111 – FIVE (5) POSTS JOB GROUP ‘’H’’


Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level may be deployed at a Sub-county Hospital, Rural Health Training Centre, Department or a unit within a large Hospital or to a Specific Health Programme where he/she will be exposed to various administrative duties which will include-:
  •  Procurement, provision and maintenance of facilities and general upkeep of the hospital.
  • The officer will work under supervision of a more senior officer.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade candidate must have-:

(i) . Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), mean grade of C- or its equivalent qualification with at least a C in English /Kiswahili and Mathematics from a recognized institution;

(ii).  Diploma in any of the following-: Health Management, Hospital Administration, Business Administration or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

6.  ASSISTANT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST 111 – FIVE (5) POSTS JOB GROUP ‘’H’’

Duties and Responsibilities
  •  Assessing, formulating and implementing patient’s treatment plan;
  •  Maintain records and data relating to patients;
  •  Sensitizing the community on occupational therapy issues;
  •  Preparing periodic reports.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade candidate must have-:

(i).  Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution;
(ii). Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

7. ASSISTANT PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICER 111 – FOUR (4) POSTS JOB GROUP ‘’H’’

Duties and Responsibilities
  •  Mobilizing, sensitizing and advising communities on matters related to environmental health;
  •  Referring health cases to relevant health facilities;
  •  Identifying environmental health issues at household level;
  •  Organizing community health days to advise communities on common public health issues;
  •  Collecting and maintaining up to date records of services rendered.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade candidate must have-:

i. Diploma in Environmental Health Science or Public Health Technology from a recognized institution;

ii. Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

8. REGISTERED NURSE 111 – EIGHTY FIVE (85) POSTS  JOB GROUP ‘’H’’


Duties and Responsibilities
  •  Assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions and evaluating patients’ outcomes;
  •  Providing appropriate healthcare service including integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI), immunization, PMCTC, ante-natal care and delivery, providing health education and counselling to patients/clients appropriately;
  •  Facilitating patients admissions and initiating discharge plans;
  •  Maintain records on patients/clients health condition and care;
  •  Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment;
  •  Collecting and compiling data.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade candidate must have-:

(i).  Diploma in any of the following disciplines-: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry from a recognized institution.

(ii).  Registered Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya;

(iii).  Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya;
(iv). Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
