How to register as an employed member

By law its compulsory for all employed Kenyans to be registered with NHIF in Kenya.
Requirements for NHIF registration

• Copy of National ID 
• Copy of Employer introduction letter 
• Coloured passport size photo 
• Original and copies of Birth certificate for dependants

Present the above documents to any of the NHIF office branches countrywide for registration assistance.

How to register to NHIF  online as self employed

To register with NHIF as self-employed individual,  one can follow the following simple procedure:

1. On your browser , go to www.nhif.or.ke 
2. Click on Self employed on the menu 
3. Enter your National ID number/passport number
4. Fill in all the fields provided
5. Attach scanned copies of your ID or Passport
6. Attach Scanned passport size photo
7. Make sure all fields are filled ( confirm)
8. Click on Save ( Application will be submitted)
9. The system will notify you of your application status immediately.

How to pay to NHIF via M-PESA 

This is the case where one is self-employed and want to contribute to NHIF as an individual member.

These are the simple steps to follow so as to make payments to NHIF via M-PESA :

• On your phone menu select M-PESA
• Select Lipa na M-PESA 
• Select pay bill
• Enter business number ( 200222) 
• Enter account number ( Type your ID number)
• Enter amount ( Type amount you wish to contribute)
• Enter your M-PESA pin number and confirm if all details are correct and press OK
• You will receive an sms to confirm your payment.

How to Check your NHIF Account Status

At some instance registered members might require to know the status of their NHIF account.

This is how to go about it :

• With your mobile phone compose an SMS write ID space then ID number e.g ID 12345678
• Send the message to 21101 
• You will receive an SMS status instantly
