Students employment life after school

Those young guys in the Kenyan Universities and Colleges expect that things will be easy and smooth after completing their courses.
Students expect that once they are out of school they are going to get jobs that are in line with what they studied for.

Although its good to think positive but should not go beyond the reality, as the saying goes "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst".

The reality is that very few students will get employment in line with what they studied, majority and if lucky enough will end up being employed in very different line with what they learned at school.

Many students are expecting to be employed as managers because they have degrees or diplomas. This is not the case ,they should accept to be employed as junior worker and then with time they can be promoted to higher positions.

Students should be prepared to work in any job offered to them.
The following is a list of top 10 jobs many students will have to work maybe before getting a second job:

  • Sales Representatives /Marketers
  • Customer service /clerks
  • Teaching assistants
  • Nursing assistants
  • Waiter/waitress
  • Secretaries and administrative assistants
  • Housekeeping cleaners/ House maids
  • Cashiers/ Supervisors
  • Fast food preparation and serving workers
  • Retail sales workers
A survey conducted by Unilada Kenya with the help of students under attachments , showed that 90% of the students will work in the jobs listed above before getting a better second job.

As Unilada Kenya we strongly discourage students to look for employment and instead compose themselves, use the skills they have ,be creative and create employment.
