How to get certification letter from Knec


The Kenya National Examination council (KNEC) as from April 2017 suspended the replacement of lost ,defaced or burnt KCPE/KCSE KNEC certificates and instead give a Certification Letters to the students to show that he or she sat for the examination in question.

However Kenyans are warned to be extra careful with the Certification letters sheet as they are only given once.

The application process for certification letter is very simple and one should consult their schools where they did the exams.

Requirements for application for the Certification letter

  • Recommendation letter addressed to the KNEC by the Head teacher/ principal of the school attended, clearly indicating that the person recommended has been given an Original KNEC certificate by the school.
  • Private candidates or individuals whose schools were shut down should get recommendations from the DEO.
  • An original police abstract indicating loss of the very question certificates.
  • Sworn legal affidavit on the identity of the applicant.
  • KNEC bank deposit slip ( Equity, National, Cooperative, KCB banks) showing a processing fees of kshs 5,220 only.
  • Photocopy of National Identification Card/Birth certificate or Passport.

Applicants Will also require the following:
  • Applicants full names
  • Name of school attended
  • Applicants full index number
  • Name of examination and the year sat for
  • Applicants personal address, telephone number and email address.
  • Applicants signature


How to apply for the Certification letter

The application is very simple , its as follows:
  • Go to the KNEC website (www.knec.ac.ke)
  • Create an account by signing up
  • You will receive some login details to access the website services.
  • Click on Certificates button to download the application form.
  • Fill the Notification application form ( Don't leave any space blank)
  • Attach all relevant documents as indicated above and send them to the address below:
