Women and girls are often denied education opportunities because they are expected to be house wives.
Statistics shows that there are more men with better jobs compared to their female counterparts.

It is for these reasons that some Scholarship organizations designed specific scholarships for Women only.
The scholarships would see more girls getting education and help them realize their life goals.
The scholarships are as follows:

  1. Zawadi Africa Education Fund

Zawadi Africa

Zawadi Africa Education Fund is a scholarship organization with a major aim of helping bright but needy girls from Africa to pursue higher education in the US, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya.

Qualifications for the scholarship
  • Must be a girl
  • Completed secondary school education with a certificate e.g KCSE.
  • Demonstrate academic excellence (A plain or A-minus) mean grade
  • Have leadership qualities
  • Demonstrate clear financial need
How to apply for the Scholarship

  • Download and fill the application form. Your application will only be considered if the form is completely filled.
  • Attach a one page biography and a passport size photo. The biography should be typed.
  • Attach a 500-650 words essay on only ONE of the three topics given in the application form.
  • Attach copies of your I.D or Birth certificate (if available)
  • Attach copies of your High school leaving certificate and KCSE result slip and other certificates in extracurricular activities.
  • Attach a signed recommendation letter from your headteachers or class teacher.
  • Attach a letter from your local Chief ,confirming his/her knowledge of your family and yourself. The letter should be stamped as a Government letter.
  • Submit a Hardcopy of the application form and all the required supporting documents to the following address:

   2. Google Anita Borg Scholarship

This is a memorial scholarship program designed to honour Dr Anita Borg vision in creating gender quality in the field of computer science by encouraging women to excell in computer and technology.
The scholarship targets women of high academic performance and leadership qualities.
Through the scholarship network,  women meet with other women who motivate them by showing them personal examples.
The scholarship encourages professional development and cultural exchange.
The scholarship covers undergraduate and postgraduate in computer science, computer engineering and informatics

Who can apply for the scholarship

  • Be ready to study in universities in Europe, Middle East or Africa.
  • Be a female currently enrolled at a university
  • Demonstrate excellent academic record
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be from Europe, Middle East and Africa

   3. Wangari Mathai Scholarship Fund

Wangari Mathai scholarship

This is an educational scholarship set up in memory of Prof Wangari Mathai.
The scholarship targets bright and innovative women in Environmental conservation , peace and leadership studies.

The scholarship is awarded to one young woman every year.

Who can apply for the scholarship

  • Girls of age 18- 25 years
  • Kenyan citizen
  • Be admitted to any  accredited Kenyan University with courses related to Environmental conservation.

    4. FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship

FINCAD is a leading provider of sophisticated valuations and risk analytics for mult-asset derivatives and fixed income portfolios.
The imbalanced number of practitioners in the capital market in that men are more compared to women.
It is for this reason that FINCAD came up with the scholarship program to draw more women in the field of Finance.
The major goal was to encourage and support bright and talented women into the field of finance and give them an opportunity to quality education.
