The MasterCard Foundation has partnered with The Regional University Forum for capacity Building of Agriculture in Africa.

The aim of the partnership is to transform African Agricultural Universities to meaningful contribute to Africa's growth and development.

Under this partnership 110 Undergraduate and 110 Master Scholarships will be provided over a period of 8 years.
The scholarships are tenable at Egerton university in Kenya and Gulu University in Uganda.

Qualifications/Eligible Requirements

  • Be from economically disadvantaged, marginalized communities, coming from conflict and post conflict areas.
  • Be a national of Kenya or Uganda to benefit from the national respective scholarship quota respectively.
  • Be a citizen of any African country to benefit from the Africa Scholarship quota.
  • Be less than 25years for Undergraduate and less than 30 years for Master studies at the time of application.
  • Should have not more than 2years from the time of completing secondary education for Bachelor degree.
  • Must meet admission criteria to eligible programmes in the university of choice (Egerton or Gulu university)  At Egerton university one must have at least C+(plus) in kcse and two principal passes in Uganda UACE.
  • Demonstrate interest in Agriculture, Agribusiness and entrepreneurship.
  • Have leadership qualities
  • Be able to work in Agriculture and Agricultural value chains.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to community transformation.

Courses to be sponsored

These are the eligible programmes  sponsered for the academic year 2019/2020 at Gulu University.
  • Bachelor of Science in Agri-Entreprenuership and communication management.
  • Bachelor of Science in Food and Agribusiness.
  • Master of science in Food security and community nutrition.
  • Master of science in Agri-Enterprises Development.
Eligible programmes sponsored for the academic year 2019/2020 at Egerton university
  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
  • Bachelor of Science in Animal science
  • Master of science in Community studies and Extension
  • Master of science in Agri-Enterprises Development.

What is covered by the scholarship

  • Tuition fee
  • One return Air ticket for African students outside Kenya or Uganda.
  • Research costs
  • Workshop and conference costs
  • Living and accommodation costs
  • Laptop
  • Internship attachment ,field and training costs.

Application procedure

  • Applicants should obtain application forms for both scholarships/ and admission from the University of choice.
  • Applicants shall only apply to one University of choice. Application forms can be found in any of these websites: Ruforum, Egerton university and Gulu university.
  • Applicants are highly encouraged to study the instructions and provide all the necessary information needed.

Application submission

  • Application can be submitted to the University of choice either in hard copy or email

Application Deadline

The deadline for the application of The MasterCard Foundation/Ruforum scholarship for the academic year 2019/2020 is on 31st March 2019 ,1700hrs(GMT+3)
